Milk Allergy? OR Lactose Intolerant?

Since I was the age of 8 or 9 I have had some form of milk allergy or lactose intolerance. I get eczema from consuming too many milk dairy products. The more dairy products I consume, the more and worse my eczema gets. Nobody knows if it is a true milk allergy or just an intolerance to lactose. But recently my eczema has been getting worse. So after poring over blog after blog, forum after forum online, talking to my mum, reading allergy information, I have decided to cut all dairy from my diet to see if that will help my eczema in some way.

So far I have been trying to be dairy free for 4 days now (it's a hard process cutting dairy from you diet, it's not until you start doing it that you come to realise how many products we take for granted contain some form of dairy), and I have already started to notice a difference.

My eczema is starting to become less flaky on face (great news!) but I also come to notice (& TMI warning!!) that I am less gassy/stomach is more settled. For example, yesterday my hubby and I went for a coffee date after I finished work (he had the day off due to sitting his Air Force entrance fitness test - which he passed! And is now waiting for an interview date). We decided to share a slice of chocolate cake and it was served with a dollop of cream on the side (fine, I ate it...I said I was trying to cut dairy out but it's a hard thing to do...don't judge.). Well about 1/2 way through sharing this slice of cake, I couldn't handle the dairy anymore, it was making me feel ill, my stomach was not feeling crash hot, that's when it struck...dairy was not my body's friend!! So now I'm back to 100% dairy free and so far my body is loving it. I'm hoping that by cutting dairy out of my diet and eventually wheat as well (a lot of people with eczema and dairy allergies also have an intolerance to wheat and gluten), I will be able to lose the few kilo's that I've gained since leaving high school in 2005.

One thing I have noticed since becoming dairy free is how hard it is to find dairy free products in New Zealand, especially in mainstream supermarkets. So I have decided to compile a list of dairy free products (I will add to it as my knowledge expands and I discover new products)...check out the list here!
